Privacy Policy
EFFECTIVE DATE: APRIL 14, 2026 · LAST UPDATED: APRIL 14, 2026
The short version: TrueLense does not store your scanned media. Files you submit for analysis are processed and immediately discarded. We never sell your data to anyone, ever.
Who we are
TrueLense is an AI-powered synthetic media detection app developed by Jacob Walls, an independent developer. You can reach us at jwalls0743@gmail.com.
What data we collect and why
TrueLense collects the minimum data necessary to provide the service.
Account information
When you create an account, we collect your email address and a hashed password via Firebase Authentication. This is required to identify your account and enforce daily scan limits. We do not collect your name, phone number, or any other personal information during sign-up.
Scanned files
When you submit an image or video for analysis, the file is transmitted securely to our backend server for processing. The file is analyzed and then immediately discarded. We retain a SHA-256 hash of the file (a one-way fingerprint that cannot reconstruct the original) and the detection result. We never store the original file on our servers.
Scan history
Your scan history — including timestamps, verdicts, confidence scores, and file names — is stored locally on your device using SQLite. This data never leaves your device unless you explicitly share it.
Crash reports
We use Firebase Crashlytics to collect anonymous crash reports. These include device type, OS version, and a stack trace. They do not include your email address, scanned files, or any personally identifiable information.
Advertising
Free tier users see banner advertisements and may watch rewarded video ads. Ads are served by Google AdMob. AdMob may collect your device's advertising identifier to serve relevant ads. You can opt out in your device settings under Privacy → Ads. TrueLense Pro subscribers see no advertisements.
What we do not collect
- Your location
- Your contacts
- Camera or microphone access
- Files you have not explicitly selected for scanning
- Biometric data
- Your data is never sold to third parties
How we protect your data
Account authentication is handled by Firebase Authentication with industry-standard security. All data in transit is encrypted via HTTPS/TLS. Your scan history is stored locally on your device and is not transmitted to our servers. Our backend is protected by Firebase JWT authentication — every API request requires a valid token tied to your account.
Third-party services
Data retention
We retain your account information for as long as your account is active. If you delete your account, your data is permanently deleted from Firebase within 30 days. Crash reports are retained by Crashlytics for 90 days. Scan history is stored locally on your device and deleted when you uninstall the app or clear app data.
Children's privacy
TrueLense is not directed at children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, please contact us and we will delete it promptly.
Your rights
You have the right to access, correct, or delete your personal data at any time. To delete your account, sign out of TrueLense then contact us at the email below. We will process deletion requests within 30 days.
Changes to this policy
We may update this privacy policy as the app evolves. If we make significant changes, we will notify you via the app or by email. The effective date at the top of this page always reflects when the policy was last updated.
